Rethinking User Research and Usability Testing for the Social Web

Usability is defined as making websites more usable, useful, and accessible to your target audience. Although there are thousands of web developers there are few who are experts in usability. When you begin to think about either building or improving your website be sure to consider how you want your users to interact with the website and define some specific goals you want your users to perform. Here is an article below that considers usability and the social web.

Rethinking User Research and Usability Testing for the Social Web.

Google+ vs Facebook

After months of waiting I finally got on Google+ last week and have had a chance to test drive the product. Since I did not really use Facebook that much I am an atypical social networking user to review Google+. I like the interface and it was extremely simple to create my “circles” and locate other Google+ users since it draws from the reservoir of email contact I have in my Gmail account. I like the control over how my content in shared to my various circles. I also like that there are no gimmicks and bells and whistles that inundate my like Facebook. I look forward to building out my Google+ network with the folk in my Facebook accounts and then ditching Facebook. In the mean time I am replaying Angry Birds again so I can set high scores for my friends to beat.

Optimizing for Mobile Devices

Five years ago mobile devices had some difficulty displaying typical websites because of the various screen resolutions and support for the wide variety of style sheet code used to create web pages.

But these days nearly everyone of the major mobile devices including smart phones, tablets and media devices can render web pages as good as an average home computer.

There are certain refinement techniques that can enhance the user experience if your web pages are specifically for mobile users and especially if your web site contains a web application designed to be used by mobile devices.

Typically though most standard web pages will not need special code to allow mobile users to enjoy the content.

Let us know if you have a question about mobile devices and your website needs.
